Sleep Talk Privacy Policy

Sleep Talk is an accountless Android app for recording and reviewing sleep sounds. This policy explains what the app accesses, what stays on your device, and what limited information third-party services may process.

Data that stays on your device

Sleep Talk stores audio recordings and the following related information in the app's private storage on your device:

• recording dates, times, durations, status, and error details;
• on-device sound classifications, confidence values, and noise levels;
• your ratings and corrections to detected sound types;
• optional before-sleep and after-waking check-ins;
• your selected app language and locally cached purchase entitlement; and
• whether a tester account is signed in.

Audio is analyzed on your device using a model bundled with the app. Sleep Talk does not automatically upload recordings, audio-derived details, check-in values, recording identifiers, or filenames to us, analytics, billing, or advertising services. The app has no Sleep Talk account or automatic cross-device sync. Android backup and device transfer are disabled for the app's private data.

Statistics, comparisons, correlations, filters, and reanalysis are calculated on your device from this stored information. If you choose to export a CSV file or local HTML report, Android sends the selected file only to the destination you choose. The destination then controls its copy.

Microphone and other permissions

• Microphone: used to record only after you tap Start recording and grant permission. Recording ends when you stop it or the enabled 12-hour limit is reached.
• Notifications: used to show and control an active foreground recording.
• Internet: used for Google Play billing, consent, advertising, the library diagnostics, and policy links described below. A storage provider such as Google Drive may use its own connection when you choose it in Android's system file picker.

Website analytics

The Android app has no analytics of its own and sends no usage analytics to us. The Google libraries it is built with send Google the technical diagnostics described below. The Sleep Talk website uses Umami to count anonymous page visits. It processes the page URL and title, referrer, browser language, screen dimensions, browser, operating system, device type, and approximate country. Umami does not use cookies or store personal information; the request exposes an IP address to the analytics host, which uses it for location metrics without storing it. Website analytics does not receive recordings or other app data.

Technical diagnostics from Google libraries

Sleep Talk analyzes sound on your device with Google's MediaPipe library and handles purchases with the Google Play Billing Library. Both libraries send Google technical diagnostics over an encrypted connection: the app's package name and version, which library feature ran, how long it took and how often it ran, error codes, and device details such as the model, Android version, language, country, and network type. These diagnostics do not contain audio, sound classifications, check-ins, ratings, recording identifiers, or filenames. Google handles them under the Google Privacy Policy.

Google Play purchases

If you buy a product or subscription, Google Play processes the payment and associated account, transaction, and payment information. Sleep Talk receives product, purchase-state, and entitlement information needed to provide the purchase. It keeps the last successfully verified entitlement on your device and does not send purchase tokens to Sleep Talk servers or analytics. Renewal, trial, cancellation, and refund rules are in the purchase and subscription terms. Google handles this information under the Google Privacy Policy.

Tester sign-in

Settings has a Sign in with Google button for app store reviewers, who cannot make purchases, and for testers the developer invites. Google shows the accounts on your phone and gives the chosen account's email address to the app. Sleep Talk compares a one-way hash of it, on your device, with its list of tester accounts: only those accounts unlock Premium and ad-free, and any other account is signed out again at once. Sleep Talk does not store or send the email address; it keeps only an on-device setting that a tester account is signed in. Google handles the sign-in under the Google Privacy Policy.

Optional backup and restore

If you tap Create backup, Android's system file picker asks where to save a ZIP file containing your recordings and their related night information described above. You may choose Google Drive or another available storage location. Sleep Talk cannot list or manage files in your Google Drive and has no backup server, so it does not receive a copy. On a new device, Import backup lets you choose that ZIP file through the system picker. Import adds missing nights without overwriting nights already stored on the device. A chosen storage provider processes its copy under its own privacy policy, such as the Google Privacy Policy.

Consent and advertising

The free version may show a non-personalized or limited Google Mobile Ads banner when you are not recording or reviewing sensitive details. Google's User Messaging Platform manages any privacy choices required in your region. Depending on your choices and Google's serving mode, Google may process an IP address and approximate location, app interactions, diagnostics, consent information, and device or account identifiers for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention. Sleep Talk does not use or send recordings, check-ins, sound classifications, ratings, or purchase tokens for advertising.

Sharing and sale

We do not sell your personal or health-related data. Data leaves the app only as described above: an optional backup you send to a storage location you choose, purchase and entitlement requests to Google Play, consent and ad requests to Google, library diagnostics to Google, files you deliberately export, or information required by law.

Retention and deletion

Recordings and related information remain on your device until you delete a night in the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling permanently removes the app's private data because Android backup is disabled, but it does not delete an optional backup stored elsewhere. Language and entitlement state remain until replaced or the app is uninstalled. Third-party services retain the limited information they process under their own policies. Security

Sleep Talk uses Android private app storage for local data and encrypted HTTPS connections for network requests. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page and its effective date before materially changing how Sleep Talk handles data.
